Ray Charles, often referred to as "The Genius," was an American singer, songwriter, and musician who made significant contributions to the world of music, particularly in the realms of rhythm and blues, soul, and jazz. Here's a short biography of this legendary artist:
Ray Charles Robinson was born on September 23, 1930, in Albany, Georgia, USA. He tragically lost his eyesight during childhood due to glaucoma, but this disability didn't deter him from pursuing his love for music. Ray Charles learned to play the piano and various other instruments, and he developed a unique and pioneering musical style that fused gospel, blues, and R&B, often referred to as "soul music."
Ray Charles released his first single, "Confession Blues," in 1949 and went on to achieve widespread fame with hits like "What'd I Say," "Georgia on My Mind," "I Can't Stop Loving You," and "Hit the Road Jack." His soulful, emotive voice and innovative piano playing set him apart as a true musical icon.
Eminent photojournalist Harry Benson has been capturing historic world events and figures over the course of his celebrated career, building up a body of color and black-and-white photographs that chronicles the tumultuous decades from the 1950s to now. His career skyrocketed in 1964, when he documented the Beatles on their first American tour, and took the now-iconic photograph of the foursome having a pillow fight in bed.
