Vivian Maier was an American street photographer and nanny who gained posthumous recognition for her extraordinary body of photographic work. Maier's photographs primarily captured everyday life in urban settings, primarily in Chicago and New York City, during the mid-20th century. She is celebrated for her keen eye, exceptional composition, and ability to capture candid moments. Vivian Maier's work remained largely unknown during her lifetime. Her remarkable collection of over 100,000 negatives, prints, and film rolls were discovered in 2007 by a historian and collector named John Maloof at a storage locker auction in Chicago. Maloof's subsequent efforts to share her work with the world led to her posthumous fame.
